Why should I take this course?
The BIIAB Scottish Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing was developed by the
BIIAB
to meet the specific requirements for the Industry in Scotland. The course
was created to enable employers to demonstrate their commitment to responsible
alcohol retailing in Scotland. This qualification gives candidate’s essential
understanding of the responsibilities that a retailer of alcohol in Scotland has.
It also equips candidates with the skills and knowledge to sell alcohol in a
responsible manner, and to act within the licensing law.
How long is the course?
The course is designed to be undertaken by candidates in a day, this includes the final
examination.
What does the course cover?
The nature of alcohol and it’s effect on the human body
The Licensing (Scotland) Act 1976 as they relate to alcohol retailers and servers
Licensing law in relation to children in Scotland
The social responsibilities relating to the retail sale of alcohol
Strategies to prevent or eliminate alcohol-related crime and conflict
The importance of personal safety
Do I have to take an exam to pass the course?
Yes, the examination is undertaken in the afternoon of the training course and
consists of 25 multiple choice questions. The examination is split into two sections:
Part 1 – Two compulsory questions, both of which must be answered correctly
Part 2 – 23 questions, of which 15 must be answered correctly to pass the examination
Will I get a certificate if I pass?
Yes. Once the exams are independently marked, which takes about a week, you will
receive a nationally recognised certificate issued by the BIIAB
