Who is this course for?
This course is designed for anyone:
Currently working as a Door Supervisor/Steward
Wishing to become a Door Supervisor/Steward
Joining the sector after working in other Security areas
Security Officers working on licensed premises (i.e. in a supermarket that
sells alcohol)
Staff responsible for controlling entry to licensed premises
Why should I take this course?
From the 1st of November 2007 it will be a legal requirement for all Security Officers,
including Door Supervisors, in Scotland to hold a valid SIA licence. Anyone found to be
working without an SIA licence as a Door Supervisor, after this date faces a fine of up
to £5,000 and/or 6 months imprisonment.
What does the course cover?
Our Door Supervisors course is a 4 day program that meets the SIA’s training
requirements, and will enable successful candidates to go on to apply for their SIA
Door Supervision Licence. The course covers a wide range of subjects as required
under the Private Security Act 2001, the main areas covered on the course include:
The Role and Responsibility of the Door Supervisor
Licensing Law
Civil and Criminal Law
Health and Safety
Drugs Awareness
Searching Procedures
Reporting and Recording Incidents
Conflict Management
Do I have to take an exam to pass the course?
Yes, there a two exams on the course, on days two and four. These exams are both
multiple choice style and candidates need to pass both exams in order to successfully
complete the course.
Will I get a certificate if I pass?
Yes. Once the exams are independently marked, which takes about two weeks,
you will receive a nationally recognised certificate accredited by either the NOCN
or the BIIAB, depending upon which course you selected.
Which course should I choose?
RTC offer you a choice of awarding bodies with which to do your Door Supervisors
training course, both of whom are nationally recognised. You can select to do
a course that is accredited with either:
The BIIAB – The awarding body of the British Institute of Inn Keeping

Or
Skills for Security – The acknowledged standards and skills body in the Security sector
