Security Guards Course Scotland

Who is this course for?

This course is designed for anyone who:
Currently works as a Security Guard
Wishing to become a Security Guard

Why should I take this course?

As from the 1st of November 2007 the SIA will have responsibility for licensing the
Security industry throughout Scotland. From this date it will become illegal to work
as a Security Guard without a valid SIA licence. Anyone found working as a Security
Guard, without a valid SIA licence, after this date will be liable to a fine of up to
£5,000 and/or 6 months imprisonment.

What does the course cover?

Our Security Guards course is a two part, 4 day program designed to exceed the training
standards for the SIA’s licensing requirements. Upon completion of the course all
successful candidates will be able to go on to apply for their SIA Security Guarding
Licence. The first three days of the program covers the role of a Security Guard,
and consists of twelve modules covering subjects such as:
BULLET Patrolling
BULLET Access Control
BULLET Searching
BULLET Security and Emergency Systems
BULLET Health and Safety
BULLET The Law

The second part of the course, day 4, deals with communications and conflict
management and deals with areas such as:

Do I have to take an exam to pass the course?

Yes, there a two exams on the course, on days three and four. These exams are both
multiple choice style, and candidates need to pass both exams in order to successfully
complete the course.

Will I get a certificate if I pass?

Yes. Once the exams are independently marked, which takes about two weeks, you
will receive a nationally recognised certificate issued by Skills for Security and
accredited by the NOCN.

Which course should I choose?

This really depends upon the area of the country that you live and work in. Both of
the following qualifications entitle you to apply for an SIA Security Guarding Licence,
which is valid throughout the UK, not just in the region for which your course was
designed.
